Property swap shop event in Weston-super-Mare is a success
We've teamed up with The Alliance Homes Group and Sovereign Housing Association to hold a property swap shop at the Winter Gardens in Weston to make it easier for our residents to move house.
Over 70 people came along to the event, which aimed to match customers who were looking for smaller homes with those who were looking to upsize. The three housing organisations were joined by other local agencies including North Somerset Council and HomeSwapper to offer advice about benefits, tenancies and mutual exchanges.
Home-swapping has been steadily growing in popularity, with many tenants eager to downsize but finding it difficult to find smaller properties.
Carla Spindler, Home Move Advisor at Alliance said: "This was the first property swap shop event we have held and we're really pleased with its success. Working in partnership with other organisations has increased the opportunities that local residents have to swap to more suitable and affordable homes."
Myfanwy Kelly, Under Occupation Officer at Knightstone, added: "We're really pleased to have been involved in this event. It provided a great opportunity for our residents, who might be affected by the Bedroom Tax and other Welfare Reforms, to see what other properties are available in their local area."
Fiona Lester, Regional Housing Manager at Sovereign said: "We have had great success with similar mutual exchange events, helping residents find more appropriate accommodation for their circumstances."
"While the 'bedroom tax' has left some needing to downsize to a more affordable homes, there are still families that are growing and looking for larger homes. By working in partnership with other local housing associations and agencies, we can offer our residents the widest possible choice.
