Community Empowerment news: We've been working with residents and partners to bring new community together at iconic J3 development
Following the official opening of our scheme J3, in central Bristol last year, we’ve been working with partners and local residents to bring the new community together.
We took a brave decision to take the lead on the development of new colourful homes and buildings on the eastern flanks of the M32’s Junction 3.
J3 has become an iconic landmark along the gateway into Bristol, and the development has opened up safe access through the underpass and cycle routes into the city centre, creating a well-used pedestrian and cycle link between St Pauls and Easton. The heart of the building complex houses the new Easton Library, offering a number of services and activities as well as community learning and, of course, books. The integral commercial units are now being taken up by a variety of companies and social enterprise, contributing to the buzz of this flourishing community.
Our Community Empowerment Officer, Laura Todd, has worked with local residents and the new J3CIC, a local action group, to set up regular local markets, offering local food, tasty snacks, arts and crafts and clothes swaps. She has also worked with residents to look at setting up a food cooperative, and create a wildflower meadow on the green in front of the flats in April, which is now flowering beautifully.
In June, the whole neighbourhood came together to open up the green spaces along the banks of the underpass, and new raised beds have been created to grow summer salads and vegetables.
