Chief Executive Nick Horne appointed to LEP Board

Nick Horne, our Chief Executive has been appointed to the West of England’s Local Enterprise Partnership’s board to help drive its growth ambitions.

Nick has been our Chief Executive since 1998. He brings to the Board over 25 years’ experience of housing development, financing and management and is a leading voice for the housing sector in the West of England and Somerset.

The appointment comes after a rigorous application process and an independent interview panel with representatives from the Institute Of Directors, the Confederation of British Industry, the Federation of Small Businesses and Business West Chambers of Commerce. 

Nick, together with the other business representatives on the board (from the aerospace, shipping, construction and small business sectors), will work alongside the leaders of West of England’s local authorities to support economic growth and attract new jobs and investment to the area.

Speaking of his appointment, Nick said: “Having lived and worked in the West of England for over 20 years, I’m passionate about the region and really excited about contributing to making what is already a great place to live and work, even better.

“I’ve been a member of the Infrastructure and Place Group since the LEP was set up over three years ago, and I’m delighted to be able to strengthen my work with the LEP through this appointment.

“Housing is a vital component of our plans for sustainable economic growth in the region and I’m pleased that I can bring that specialist knowledge and expertise to the Board.  I’m now looking forward to working on the next phase of our plans for growth.”

The West of England LEP covers the four Local Authorities of Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. In partnership with businesses, the LEP and the local authorities, are working together to support:

Commenting on Nick’s appointment, LEP chairman Colin Skellett said: “I’m looking forward to working with Nick as one of the new business representatives on the LEP Board. All of those who have been appointed bring a wealth of experience from sectors that are absolutely critical to our plans to bring economic growth to the West of England.

“Their experience in aerospace, logistics, housing, infrastructure and small and medium enterprise gives businesses in the West of England real and powerful influence in the future direction of our economy.”

Nick also recently chaired Bristol City Council’s Mayoral Homes Commission which looked at ways to increase the supply of new and affordable housing in the city.
