Seaward Way Dreamscheme donates to local foodbank
Seaward Way, Minehead has been a hive of activity with residents young and old getting involved in the latest Dreamscheme activity to be held in the neighbourhood, working together to collect much needed donations for the local foodbank.
Dreamscheme, a community programme has been up and running at Seaward Way for eight years. The programme is designed to engage young people, giving them the opportunity to build confidence and skills, meet new people and visit new places together.
The group collected the items and made up food parcels which they decorated before donating them to West Somerset Food Cupboard, the local foodbank, for members of the community to access.
They were inundated with food donations from the local community as well as a very kind donation from Poundland.
We facilitated the project with Magna Housing, working in partnership with the local community.
Pete Davies, our Community Empowerment Manager said: We’re really pleased with the ongoing success of our Dreamscheme programme. It’s great to see young people getting involved in the project and making such a positive contribution to their local community.”
Neil Bliss, Resident and Community Engagement Officer at Magna Housing, said: “Magna does all it can to support the communities we are based in, so the idea of everyone getting together to support the local food bank was something we really wanted to be involved with.”
Ann Gibbs from West Somerset Food Cupboard, commented: “I was delighted to come to the food parcel activity in Seaward Way. There were lots of donations from local residents and the children did a fantastic job decorating all the boxes and sorting the food into them. Such contributions make all the difference to us as we try to help people who just do not have enough. I know all our clients are really grateful.”
