A new community larder is launching to bring affordable food to the LiveWest community of Barne Barton in Plymouth.
FP (Furse Park) Community Larder, in Barne Barton, is a surplus food project aimed at reducing food waste and helping housing association LiveWest customers save money on cupboard staples.
It received funding of £800 from LiveWest which includes £300 Social Value funding too. After a targeted launch on 9 January this has opened to help save customers money in the Barne Barton area of Plymouth.
Customers can buy five food cupboard items for £1 with free fruit and vegetables. It is very friendly, open access with no form filling and people can stay and have a tea or coffee and cake.
Our Community Connector, Ali Knight, who started this project with LiveWest residents said: “We are really pleased to be able to open up the LiveWest Community House in Furse Park, Barne Barton to create a space where people can buy affordable essentials, enjoy a hot drink and a chat if they want to.
“Customers have already said how much they appreciate this project, and they look forward to using it again.”

LiveWest has worked with partners to get this project up and running. The FP Community Larder would not be possible without support from The Pioneers Project, Mike Hookway (Barne Barton’s Community Builder) FareShare South West and also the ongoing support from four LiveWest volunteers who help make this happen in their local community.
This project is taking place monthly at the moment and will be advertised to more LiveWest communities in Barne Barton. We also hope to invite organisations in to give advice to people who attend and organise some cooking classes.
The community house has limited capacity so for now, this project is only open to people in the local area.
