Ladden Garden Village Community Group host event to meet new neighbours

As part of its drive to get neighbours together, Ladden Garden Village Community Group hosted an Easter event this weekend.

Ladden Garden Village is a new mixed development of 2, 000 homes. Though the development is still being constructed, over 200 of the 747 affordable housing properties are currently occupied.

Visitors to the event took part in craft activities with art project group ‘Home from Home’ offering cyanotype printing with patterns, textures and shapes in nature with artist Laura Phillimore. The local rainbows group made delicious cakes for sale to raise funds towards their activities.

Janine Somers from Ladden Garden Village Community Group said: “Our focus is to bring together our ever-growing community, raise funds for our local charities, and have some fun during the events. We look forward to each new event and the opportunity to meet and welcome our neighbours.”

“We have a lovely open space, children’s play park, and a wonderfully constructed pavilion, which are all perfect for the community events. Hopefully we will be able to successfully run community events for years to come.”

Marie Burke, Community Connector at LiveWest said: “There were some great children’s activities including, free easter eggs, refreshments, cake stalls and craft activity.”

“The Ladden Garden Village Community Group was set up last year and with a constant influx of new residents it is important to get to know your neighbours.”

As the development doesn’t have a community space the arts council launched the pavilion – an art structure commissioned for two years which people can sit inside of. The structure is made from offcuts of wood from the development. The area will have a community centre built in the future.

Marie added: “It's building the idea of community, for any new community. So, the pavilion is great, because we can run a few things in there bringing people together. The event gave the community a chance to connect with each other in a new space.”

The event was supported by Barratt Homes, David Wilson Homes who donated £200 towards the Easter Egg hunt, Yate Town Council, LiveWest and Yate Parish Council. LiveWest have donated £1000 to the community group towards organising events for the year ahead.

Ladden Garden Village will become a brand new community with over 2,000 homes in North Yate.  This new community will also offer a nursery, primary school, local centre, allotments and sports pitches. As well as office space and new employment opportunities.

Ladden Garden Village is approximately 2 miles away from the centre of Yate where you will find excellent shopping facilities and plenty of places to eat and drink.

The new area will include new nurseries and schools with over 15.5 acres of outdoor sports facilities, planting of over 600 new trees and over 3.7 acres of new woodland hedgerows. As well as this there will be over 32 acres of open space including 20 acres of species rich grassland and natural landscape features. 1.18 hectares of allotments, over 4 acres of new play areas for a variety of age groups will also feature as well as 4.5 kilometres of cycleways and footpaths.
