Major Plymouth regeneration project begins to provide 33 affordable homes

Works will soon begin on site to deliver more affordable homes to the area.

In partnership with Lovell Partnerships, we are transforming a neighbourhood in Devonport by redeveloping the site and delivering a new generation of affordable homes for the city of Plymouth.

The development will replace the former homes at Healy Place with 33 new affordable homes, designed to meet modern housing standards and provide high-quality, energy-efficient housing for local people.

Following planning approval and the successful relocation of residents from the existing scheme, contracts have now been signed with Lovell to redevelop the site. The major regeneration project will deliver much-needed social rented homes, helping to meet local housing demand.

The regeneration project forms part of LiveWest's long-term commitment to investing in Plymouth and supporting the ongoing renewal of Devonport, while contributing to the wider regeneration of the local area.

The scheme has secured significant funding support from Homes England and Plymouth City Council, helping bring forward the redevelopment and deliver much-needed affordable housing in the city.

Michael Hourican, Head of Regeneration at LiveWest, said: "Reaching this point is a significant milestone for Healy Place and the wider Devonport community.

“We recognise that regeneration projects can be challenging and would like to thank all residents for their patience and cooperation throughout the process.

"With all residents now successfully rehoused, we are delighted to be moving into the construction phase.

“Working alongside Lovell, we will create high-quality, affordable homes that meet modern standards and support our long-term commitment to Plymouth."

Ross Field, Regional Managing Director at Lovell, said: “We are delighted to be expanding our presence in the city, working in partnership with Livewest on this transformative regeneration project.

“Healy Place is an exciting development and together we will be delivering high-quality & energy efficient affordable homes with long lasting social and environmental benefits.”

The redevelopment follows several years of planning, consultation and engagement with residents and stakeholders.

We worked closely with our residents throughout the decant process, supporting households to find alternative homes before work could begin on site.

The project supports LiveWest's wider regeneration strategy and commitment to providing more affordable homes across the South West, while investing in existing communities and creating places where people can thrive.

Councillor Matt Smith, Cabinet Member for Housing at Plymouth City Council, said: “The start on site milestone for any project is an exciting one but here, where the regeneration for the area is so significant, it really is momentous.

“These energy-efficient, low carbon homes are most welcome and I'd like to thank LiveWest for their ongoing support both here in Devonport and across the city.”

Shahi Islam, Director of Affordable Housing Grants at Homes England, added: “The start on site of the new social rent homes in Devonport is an exciting milestone that demonstrates the value of partnership working in meeting local housing needs.

“Through strong partnership working with housing providers like LiveWest, we are delivering high-quality affordable homes at pace, helping more people access safe, secure and affordable housing."
