One of our Asset Delivery Managers offers his advice as part of our focus on Green Careers Week

We continue to highlight our eco-friendly careers at LiveWest for Green Careers Week.

Ben Logan, our Asset Delivery Manager, offers advice to those looking to take a step further in their career.

As part of his role at LiveWest, Ben works to improve the energy-efficiency of our customers’ homes and protecting the environment.

After progressing within LiveWest for just over two years, Ben says his advice is to stay curious, positive and proactive.

He said: “I want to learn. I want to always keep learning to build on my experiences in the construction industry, there are always changes. There is always something to learn about the role.

“For anyone looking to take a step forward in their career, my advice would be to stay curious,  positive and proactive. I try to be in the office as much as I can to engage with my colleagues and ask questions.

“I ask questions like ‘what effect will that have?’ Or ‘what impact will this have on our customers?’ I think it’s important to stay proactive because that’s how you learn.

“Learning can range from finding a mentor which will give you further insights into your career or going out and doing more practical work.”

Starting off as a Planner for the Mechanical and Electrical team and having ambitions to learn more about social housing, Ben completed his Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) training in housing practices and enjoyed the sustainable communities module on his course.

At LiveWest, he then applied to be in the Asset Delivery Coordinator and a year on, took the opportunity to become an Assistant Asset Delivery Manager to develop his learning with retrofit coordinator training – which helps improve the energy-efficiency of our homes.

After being in his new role for six months and having already completed his retrofit training at LiveWest, Ben talked about his excitement for his first retrofit project.

Our ongoing Cby28 retrofit works help transform homes to improve the EPC (Energy Performance Rating) of our properties to C, two years ahead of the Government’s deadline.

He said: “I’m looking forward to gaining more insight into our retrofit programme and helping our customers have more energy efficient homes to help them with their bills.

“I’m really enjoying my new role. It’s great to work alongside contractors, helping customers with a more energy efficient home and helping the environment.

“We want to ensure our customers’ homes are more energy efficient, to help reduce their heating bills.

“By helping to reduce the amount of carbon our customers use in their home, there’s a positive for the environment and our customers.

“Our approach is all about making sure we do the right thing for the home and for the customers living there.”

As we continue to take further measure to retrofit our least energy-efficient homes, we have progressed on our journey to be net zero by 2050.

Ben added: “For example, the Asset Management Delivery Team in South Devon have recently done some retrofit works down in the South Hams area and the customers were really happy with the work.

“As a retrofit coordinator, you understand that every home is different. We can’t necessarily apply the same measures for one home as we do for the other.

“It’s not just about insulating our customers’ homes, our retrofit projects are more about making our homes more comfortable for our customers.”

Our customers Tom and Patricia were delighted with their Cby28 retrofit improvements made to their bungalow at South Hams, Devon. Click here to read more about their story and retrofit works.
