Our new eco development in Exeter will create energy-efficient homes

We are excited to be moving forwards with a sustainable development in Exeter.
Ringswell Avenue

Building environmentally-friendly homes is a priority for us and we are excited to be moving forwards with a sustainable development in Exeter.

We have joined forces with partnership house building specialist, Lovell, to build 60 affordable homes at Ringswell Avenue.

There will be 35 homes for social rent and 25 for shared ownership, including a mix of two, three and four-bedroom properties.

It is the first development to meet our new sustainable homes standards following the launch of our ‘Creating Greener Futures Together’ environmental strategy.

All of the homes at Ringswell Avenue will be insulated to a higher standard than required by the building regulations and will have a SAP (energy efficiency score) of at least 86. The homes will be fitted with solar photovoltaic panels to generate their own electricity.

The development will include electric car charging ports and public cycle parking, with spaces available for use by a car club.

Sammi Hunt, our Development Manager, said: “This development is bringing high-quality new housing to revitalise this area.

“By ensuring these homes are climate-resilient and energy-efficient, we will provide a healthy environment for everyone living in them.

“Embracing innovative technologies to improve the sustainability of our homes will play a significant role in reducing carbon emissions and ensuring our homes continue to be affordable.

“With energy costs rising, the energy efficiency of these homes will help to reduce energy consumption and save money for our customers and keep them warm and comfortable at home.

“Our new environmental standards are built on a foundation of future-proofing our homes.  By insulating homes as much as possible in construction, we can avoid the need to return in years to come and add more.

“Similarly, installing solar panels from day one means that all of the necessary infrastructure is in place so that they can be upgraded in the future as technology improves.

“Reducing energy bills is a vital step in tackling fuel poverty and these homes will be energy efficient.”

Andrew Johnson, Regional Managing Director at Lovell Southern, said: “We are delighted to be working with LiveWest on this ground-breaking development in Exeter.

“Lovell has been at the forefront of building affordable homes all over the country for nearly 50 years and we strongly endorse LiveWest’s sustainability strategy at Ringswell Avenue.”

The development is benefiting from grant-funding from government housing agency Homes England through a strategic partnership with Sovereign Housing.

Sammi Hunt added: “We are delighted to continue to invest in Exeter to ensure a steady supply of affordable homes.

“The support from Homes England means we are able to provide 100% affordable homes on a site that has great transport connections.

“Together with our two schemes in Exwick, and our partnership with Vistry Partnerships to develop affordable homes at Pinhoe Quarry and South West Exeter, we are making a major contribution to ensuring there is a home for everyone in the city.”
