This week is National Hate Crime Week. This awareness week is when people across the country come together to stand up against hate crime. At LiveWest, we are here to show our support.
What is a hate crime?
A hate crime happens when someone is targeted because of:
- A disability
- Race or ethnicity
- Religion or belief
- Sexual orientation
- Transgender identity
Hate crimes can take many forms, including:
- Name-calling or offensive language
- Physical attacks
- Vandalism or damaging property
- Threats or intimidation
How can LiveWest help?
At LiveWest, we take hate crimes seriously. If you report a hate crime to us, we will aim to respond as quickly as we can - usually within 24 hours. We will also work with you and other organisations, like the Police, to make sure you get the support you need.
We are committed to the Zero Tolerance Hate Crime Pledge. This means we promote a positive message of social community responsibility, we are committed to making our workplace desirable and demonstrate respect for all, and we support equality and human rights legislation. You can read more about the Zero Tolerance Hate Crime Pledge here.
If you have experienced or witnessed a hate crime, it is important to report it. You can:
- Call the Police on 101 for non-emergencies or 999 for emergencies
- Get advice and support from Stand Against Racism and Inequality (SARI)
- Use the 24-hour helpline from Stop Hate UK at 0800 138 1625
- Report the incident to us online using our antisocial behaviour form
Hate crime can come in lots of different forms. Here are some useful links on our website that are relevant to the week:
