LiveWest customers Sue Bessell and Pat Rich from Fountain Court and Marlene Cadman from St Clare Flats, in Cornwall, have taken the lead in encouraging neighbours to help raise funds and to get involved in planting and maintaining their popular communal garden. Last year they successfully applied for funding from LiveWest, Cornwall Council’s Community Chest and Penzance Town Council to help fund the display for their 2019 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Britain in Bloom entry.
The Penzance Floral Group entered the town into the RHS Britain in Bloom competition earlier this year and Fountain Court selected for judged this summer. In October, Fountain Court garden awarded “Outstanding” by RHS Britain in Bloom 2019, in recognition of hard work, planting and maintaining beautiful gardens, alongside Morrab Gardens in Penzance.
Pat Rich, Livewest customer said: “I feel so proud of Marlene and Sue, and so grateful for their help and the effort and energy they put in. I would also like to say thank you to all those who supported us and donated as we are self-funding, and their support helps us continue each year.”
The gardening initiative at Fountain Court has spread and customers at St Clare have now also applied for funding for their communal garden.
