The second phase of 30 new affordable homes being built in the village of Uffculme, Devon are near to completion, with residents set to move into their new homes from August 2022.
We have partnered with Lovell to deliver phase two of the 90-home development in the rural village.
The first phase of the major housing development was completed last year which included 11 homes for rent, 10 for shared ownership and 39 for open market sale.
Leon Harris, our Senior Development Manager, said: “These further 30 homes at Uffculme are supporting the growth of this beautiful rural community.
“Rural house building can be key to the survival of vital community assets and services, such as schools, post offices and pubs and we know these homes will really make a difference.
“In total across the two phases, we will be providing 32 low-cost homes of rent and shared ownership supporting many local families that would be otherwise priced out of the area to stay within their community.
“Alongside the homes we are also providing large green open-spaces for the residents, as well as a financial contribution towards the up-grade of off-site play areas within the village, and primary and secondary schooling in Uffculme.”
Andrew Johnston, Regional Managing Director at Lovell, Southern Region, added: “Lovell is delighted to have been chosen by LiveWest for phase two of this exciting housing development in Uffculme.”
As part of our commitment to the environment, the social housing provider is working with Lovell to develop edible landscaping which will see the growth of food-producing plants within the residential landscape.
The new homes will meet our new sustainable homes standards which is part of LiveWest’s environmental strategy. All of the homes will be insulated to a higher standard than current Building Regulations requirements. As part of this new phase, the provision for home offices have been included in the architectural design, together with the provision of car charging to all garages, and PV (photovoltaic) on all roofs.
We have also invested in upgrade works to the main road into the village Uffculme, including provision of two new bus stops and an extended 30 mph zone.
New trees have been planted on the scheme as well as plants that have been specifically selected to attract and sustain local wildlife.
Bird and bat boxes have been provided throughout the scheme and residents will be encouraged to enjoy the green space, and make use of the picnic tables in the rural surroundings.
The homes are set on the edge of the village of Uffculme, situated on the River Culm close to the Blackdown Hills, an area of natural beauty. This thriving rural village has a primary and secondary school, local shop, pub and a busy community centre.
