LiveWest has donated to Marazion Primary School in Cornwall to support pupils in upgrading their Greenpower Goblin racing car, helping them continue to take part in competitive STEM-based challenges.
Alongside local contractors DWT and Taurus, LiveWest supported a local school with families living in our homes within the Marazion catchment area.
Year 6 pupils at Marazion Primary have been working hard to raise funds to upgrade their Goblin car, a student-built racing vehicle used in engineering and design competitions, helping to introduce them to STEM: science, technology, engineering and maths.
While the school has enjoyed success with its current model, competing schools had already upgraded their cars. The £2,000 donation has enabled them to purchase a new generation kit, bringing them back to a competitive standard.
Kayleigh Rescorla-Hill, Year 5/6 Class Teacher for Marazion Primary School, said: “LiveWest, Taurus and DWT were blown away by the level of mechanics and engineering that the children were participating in, and they were excited to watch the cars being driven around our practice track.
“We are so grateful for the incredibly generous contribution to our club – it has enabled us to harness the excitement of motorsport and bring STEM subjects to life in an engaging, practical and inspiring way.
“Our new generation 2 kit car will allow us to compete with other schools from around the world on a level playing field. It also enables us to explore the incredibly important world of green, renewable energy.”
Sara Oliver, Headteacher at Marazion Primary School, highlighted the importance of the funding in helping pupils stay engaged in STEM learning.
The funding demonstrates how we are working with our contractors for social value, reinvesting in local communities and supporting educational opportunities.
The donation not only supports the school’s participation but also strengthens hands-on learning in science engineering and maths, giving pupils valuable skills.
Karl Carver, our Contracts Manager, who attended the school said: ”It was a fantastic afternoon. Seeing first-hand how the donations have been used and the impact they have had on the children made it all worthwhile.
“The children were incredibly enthusiastic and proud to show us what they have achieved. They gave us demonstrations in the racing karts and were also in the process of building the new cart purchased with the money raised by LiveWest and our contractors.
“What really stood out was the excitement and engagement from the children. They were fully involved in building, maintaining, and racing the carts, learning practical engineering skills while having a great time. It was genuinely brilliant to see.”
